The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown dependency in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland. It’s known for its rugged coastline, medieval castles and rural landscape, rising to a mountainous center. In the capital, Douglas, the Manx Museum traces the island’s Celtic and Viking heritage. Each year the island hosts the Isle of Man TT Races which is a World famous, cross-country motorcycle race on the incredible ‘Mountain Course’ – a 37.73 mile course through public roads.
With a population of only 83,314 (in 2017) we really are a small little island. It is only 32 miles long and, at its widest point, 14 miles wide.
The picture below is one of our favorites of the Isle of Man, it really shows how tiny we are on a satellite.
As some of you may know, the Isle of Man has its own language, this is Manx Gaelic. An interesting fact is that the Isle of Man in Manx is Ellan Vannin.
On the island, the Manx greetings Moghrey mie (good morning) and Fastyr mie (good afternoon) can often be heard.
Why not come to the Isle of Man and stay in style at the fantastic Ellan Vannin Hotel. After all it is Manx for the Isle of Man.
We really do live on an amazing, beautiful island.
The clip below was made by an Isle of Man company showing how wonderful it really is, take a look and see for yourself.
